The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child has been ratified by 190 countries and was extended to Hong Kong in September 1994.

How well do you and your staff understand it?

This training package will help you understand the principles and concepts of the Convention and consider how to integrate it into your policy and practice.

WHAT'S INSIDE?
There are totally six training modules :

1. Introduction to the Convention

Definition of "child rights"; Difference between "needs" and "rights"; Historical background of the Convention

2. Survival right

The child's inherent dignity; What are the threats to survival?

3. Protection right

Protection against discrimination, exploitation and abuse; How to apply the protection measures in the Convention to your work?

4. Development right

What is development? How is child development referred to in the Convention?

5. Participation right

What is the current status of children's participation within the community; Ways to become more actively involved in promoting the child's right to participation.

6. The role of NGOs in monitoring and reporting

The reporting process for the Convention; How to monitor and perform follow-up?

Each module is written as a stand alone unit of work including a lesson plan for you to follow, plus an annex with overhead transparency masters and handouts for the participants. In addition, there is a check list of the materials & equipment you will need for each module.

It is designed to be accessible for those who have not had a lot of experience conducting training workshop. It offers invaluable support to anyone engaged in training and education work in the field of children's rights.
