A Child's Eye View of the UNCRC

The first child friendly version of the UNCRC has finally been published!

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) was extended to Hong Kong in 1994. It aims to protect 1.3 million Hong Kong children from harm yet many children have never heard about it because the existing official version is too difficult to be comprehended by them. This hinders children to learn about their rights.

In view of the above, the Hong Kong Committee on Children's Rights has published "A Child's Eye View of the UNCRC" - the first child friendly version of the UNCRC in February 2007. Through a language that is easily understood by children, pictures and stories, the story book helps children to learn about their rights and responsibilities with enjoyment. "A Child's Eye View of the UNCRC" is the result of the wonderful partnership between adults and children. Children expressed their views on children's rights and contributed beautiful pictures to the story book through participating in the Illustration Competition on Children's Rights.

We are honoured to have the support of Prof. Jaap E. Doek, Chairperson of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child to support the story book; and famous local illustrator, Mr Bigsoil to produce illustrations for the content. We are also grateful to have Mr Stephen S.L. Lam, JP, the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs to write a foreword for the story book.

We encourage agencies, teachers and parents to use this book to help children to understand their rights and responsibility and take action to help the needy children around them and all over the world.
